Of course you have to learn to network if you’re going to be a consultant. How else will you bring in business? And of course you can learn to network. Everyone can. You just need to find the style of networking that works for you.

That’s the premise on which Diane Darling, CEO of Effective Networking Inc., founded her business. In speeches and seminars, she’s shared her techniques with executives and staff at some of the country’s leading technology firms, banks, and business schools, among other clients. Her approach combines interactive training, strategic planning, and an exploration of the natural fears of networking. She demystifies the process by providing her clients with techniques they can use immediately.

She also helps people with new communications technologies, including social networking. After all, social media has changed everything, hasn’t it? Or has it?

Whatever your style, and whichever channels work best for you and your business, Diane will tell you what you need to know about networking now.

Here are some of the topics Diane will touch on:

  • How “hybrid networking” works: how to make your online connections and your in-person encounters work together
  • How to leverage your membership in SPC and other organizations to build your consulting practice
  • How to help balance long-term relationship-building efforts with steps to meet the short-term need to bring in business
  • How to avoid the common mistakes in networking – or recover from them if you make them
  • How to work a room

About Our Speaker:

Diane Darling has a background in the fields of travel and hospitality. She was trying to start a business when someone who had noticed her knack for connecting people asked her to give a workshop on networking techniques. One seminar led to another, and a year to the day after her first one, The Wall Street Journal profiled her work in its Dec. 4, 2001, issue. That piece led McGraw-Hill to commission a book from her, “The Networking Survival Guide,” now in its second edition, revised to include social media.

She has lived in the Philippines, Thailand, Colorado, Indiana, and Alabama, and now lives in Boston. Her travels have taken her to all seven continents and 60 different countries.
