In this section we post questions
from members and responses
from The Mentor.
The Question“I hear a lot about Virtual Consulting organizations. What does that mean? Do SPC members have experience in this area?”
The Answer“Virtual” can refer to any organization. It means that the organization accomplishes it's tasks by using a combination of resources from inside as well as from outside the company. For example, I take on an assignment under my company Turning Point Solutions. To complete the assignment I bring in another consultant who has his/her own business but is willing to work on this assignment for me. Thus Turning Point Solutions looks to the client like a "virtual" two person company in this case.

Many SPC members, including myself, have found this to be an excellent business approach for solving the peaks and valleys of business. If I have too much work (a peak) I can call on other professionals to help in satisfying my clients. If I have too little business (a valley) I can expect that someone that I have worked with before will have some business for me because they are aware of my capabilities. If you are interested in more detail, I suggest that at the next meeting you attend you tell the attendees during your elevator speech that you are interested in talking with members or guests who have experience with virtual consulting relationships.
