"Can I
write the value of my time off as a charitable donation?"
"What, if
anything, should I ask the organization to do for me (i.e., letter of
reference, listing in newsletter, etc.)?" |
My understanding of this issue is that you cannot claim
the value of the time. I have had this issue myself. I will send this on to a
financial member for another "look". Please check back here to see if there is
another posting.
Clearly, you should ask for all of the things you
would request from any other client. Letter of reference, promotion (credit) in
any publication over which the organization has influence as well as referrals
to others who can use your services on a for-fee basis. I have always found
that giving away my services has turned into significantly more business than I
donated. In addition, assuming that you are supporting a cause you believe in,
it feels good. |
